  1. How to start Free Media Converter

    Free Media Converter can be started by selecting the Convert Tool (Convert icon) on the Free Media Recorder Toolbar in your browser

    1. It will also start automatically when you have selected Send to Media Converter in Free Media Recorder or Free Radio Recorder.
    2. Free Media Converter will run silently in the background with an icon in the task tray and appear automatically when new files are added.
    3. When running in the background popups are displayed from the task tray when ever a conversion is finished. Clicking the task tray icon will display the main window at any time.
  1. Setting Up a Conversion Profile

    When you first open Free Media Converter, you'll be prompted to set up a "conversion profile". This is how you tell Free Media Converter what format you want files converted to.

    Here's how to set up your conversion profile:

    1. 1. Select Tools > Conversion Settings from the menu or click the Conversion Profile listed next to the Convert button.
    2. 2. Pick the device manufacturer or format you want to convert to.
    3. 3. Choose the quality from the drop-down list of formats:
    4. 4. Optional: To further customize, click the Edit button.
    5. 5. Click OK when finished.
  1. Converting Files

    If you have selected to automatically Send to Media Converter from Free Media Recorder or Free Radio Recorder the file will automatically appear when the converter opens.

    Picking other files to convert is easy: just click the Add Files button.

    As you add files, a thumbnail of each file appears. You can remove a files from the conversion list by hovering the mouse cursor over the file's thumbnail, and clicking the "X" to delete it from the list.

    When you are ready to convert, click the Convert button. You'll see the progress of the conversion job for each file like this:

    Free Media Converter is really pretty simple, so there aren't a lot of settings. But you can do some simple changes to customize how Free Media Converter operates. Click Tools, Settings from the menu to open Settings.

    1. Hide from Task Bar when Minimized: This option will remove Free Media Converter from the task bar when it's minimized. You can reopen Free Media Converter from the system tray in the lower right hand size of your PC screen.
    2. Enable Sound Effects: Plays a sound when a conversion is complete. It's more fun with this setting turned on.
    3. Gather Anonymous Usage Data: We like to know how people are using Free Media Converter so we can make it better.
    4. Duplicate Naming Rule: Occasionally, you will convert to a file name that already exists on your PC. This option lets you choose how duplicate files are named.
